Replacing Heater core
« on: October 02, 2009 - 04:33:10 PM »
So I have a '73 'cuda that used to have air... the engine was replaced/ All the air parts are gone and I really don't care about putting them back

Anyway, the heater has been bypassed, so I'm assuming that it's leaking.

Can I replace the heater core with one built without ac ?

Thanks

No, the heater core for ac only fits the a/c boxes. No ac fits non ac boxes. Different bends where the core is mounted itself

I could be mistaken, but I also think the A.C. heater cores and non A.C. heater cores have different hole locations in the firewall....Meaning you would have to drill holes for the non A.C. heater core to connect to the hoses.

I'll give you a piece of advice on the replacement process.  Remove the passenger seat, the glove box door and the glove box liner first.  The job is right in front of you from then on out.  I did this many years ago, without the removal, on my first Challenger and while I was a lot thinner then, it was a terrible experience.  Talk about feeling dumb when I realized how your are supposed to it!  LOL!
