Went to Mecum auction on Saturday
« on: October 04, 2009 - 10:19:14 PM »
Sorry no pics!  >:(  Just went 2 observe  on our way to Joliet saturday afternoon. Some very nice rides as always! Some Mopars to die for! A great 71 HEMI Charger along with a T/A Chally! (neither sold) Overall tho I'd
say
Car count was down a little compared to the last few years I went to.
Overall things that sold went for less that past years IMO
I dont think I've ever seen so many cars that didn't make reserve

High $ car when I was there was a Judge Convert in blue.... $350K and bids were going 25K at a time
SOLD!

Buyer area was packed, so somebody had a little money to spend, but the auctioneers really had to work some of the bids. There were a few there I'd was drooling over for sure. The wife kept telling me there's still time to register. How lucky can I be, its ok to buy more toys!! But I didn't, I knew better....  :walkaway:
70 Chally R/T Convertible- Yes she's really got a HEMI, no she's not a Charger!

I was there Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  For the most part the Mopars weren't bidding especially high.  But for the most part the Mopars I saw weren't of top caliber either.
There were 3 real hemi cudas, including one formerly owned by Nicolas Cage.  His black one along with an orange one bid into the 200's, reserve not met.
The best hemi cuda was a semi unrestored 2 tag 4 speed F8 green one, it only bid to around 150K!  The reserve was around 220K.  I bought some mega million tickets Friday on my way home, but only won a buck with one, but if I had hit the jackpot I would have grabbed that hemi cuda, it seemed like a screaming deal if it could have been bought in the low 200's!!
I saw a bench seat '71 cuda 340 go for 40K, which seemed high, but shortly afterward a white '70 cuda 383 4 speed with a red interior only went for 31K.
My highlight was seeing George Barris there along with his AMX 400, which sold for 100K which didn't seem like much.
I took a million pictures and I'd post a few but the frickin uploader is full.... :banghead:

Sounds like a cool time!

Soooo, if you could have any car at the auction, money no object, what would be good?  :clueless:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Pic #2 and 3 of my ARII 1/24 scale model car

Phil in New England-Massachusetts  Always thank God for what you have!

That '71 B5 last documented hemi cuda built is owned by Mecum I am told, so that would explain why it seems to be up for auction at so many of his auctions.  It seems to function more as an attention grabber than a car that is really for sale. :2cents:

That Mr. Norms '71 Hemi Charger at most of the Mecum auctions is owned by him also.
