383 cylinder heads
« on: October 09, 2009 - 08:00:56 PM »
part number 951250 or 2951250, one side had the 2 right next to it.  2.85" and 1.75" valves.  Any good to use on fairly mild 383?  worth installing hardened valve seats?  Only going to install a mild cam, like maybe a factory grind that came in the road runners, this was non-magnum 383, painted light blue, from 68 model pass car.

I searched the 2951250 # & it shows to be for 440s an RB engine...donno if that will work on a B engine.

The heads will bolt straight on guys :2thumbs: should work fine, not sure about your octane rating compared with ours here, not sure if harden seats would be necesary there or not :dunno: depends on your compression too ;)

these heads were on a supposedly low mileage 383 out of a 68 Newport and that webpage does show 68 440.  The motor was pale blue.  I guess the factory just used what was handy.  The motor also was supposedly never apart and it did still have the insulation pad under the intake I read about on here.  It also had the very tiniest Carter 4 barrel (the best and top both) I've ever seen.  I guess the heads will flow well enough to use w/mild hydraulic cam then.  I'm figuring something about like a stock road runner cam.  I'm positive this motor is 383 and not 440 because the way the block is made.

naturally I meant to type the Carter 4 barrel has the tiniest "BOTTOM" and top also.  I won't be able to bolt any other carb to that intake.  I figure I'll look for a used Holley Street Dominator, I've been lurking on here reading and thinking and I know I've got one on a small block Chevy and it's a great intake (on my 327) and they're reasonably priced used.

Ya definately wanna dump the stock carb for either a Holley or a 800 Thunder AVS.  They used some tiny carbs on the stockers.

the 250 casting is nothing special , it was used for a few months before the 906 , just an open chamber head , should have 2.08/1.74 valves , insalling hard seats is a good idea if you are going to run these haeds for a while , I would install a 1.81 exhaust with thehard seats  though .
KEN IS CORRECT  all big block heads will bolt on any B or RB engine
