That would be perfect Gordon. Out of all the aftermarket kits I have seen the Edelbrock seems to be the best thing going. I like it because it is multipoint fuel injection, has all the junk needed and a programmer so you dont have to have a laptop. I would love to get one for my big block when I build it but at 3k+ they are just still too high. For that I can get a supercharger for the engine which would be much more bang for that kinda buck. Maybe you can get a good deal on it, I think Summit sells them for like 2700 for the small block.

Just do it with a full after market system, and be done with it! You don't change to EFI to be econimical, you do it for drivability. Buy a spare single plane intake like a used M1 or similar, and convert the intake...$360 bucks. Pick a throttle body and MATCHED injectors, IAC, & fuel rails. THen get an A1000 fuel pump and figure out all the plumbing...Lastly, the XFI ecu and harness. I would never piece togather a factory system...Besides, a good quick fuel carb and fuel system, are nearly as good as efi....Just don't get the same milage. The drag guys do it for tuneability, and the fact its a full on data logger, with fully progamable timing, and everything. If you purchased all that seperately, it is economical, but if your comparing it to a carb you got off your buddy Joe for $50....Its not economical.

This was the Year One system that was talking about. You should be up and running for less that $2000 with this self tuning system.

If you do some searching i the history of this site there was a guy on this site that converted his small block into MAS air flow Ford. Basically turned the upper end into a Mustang 302 motor. He later ended up adding a Paxton intended for a Mustang as well. Claimed it ran really well and used mostly spare parts.

I would not want to convert my car to a Ford system it just would not be right to do.  I am a Ford tech also but still would not ever feel right by putting a ford system on my mopar.  Gordon

I am willing to hold out until multiport systems come down in price. I would want to go all in or not at all. Having a throttle body injection would be an improvement over carb but not by a whole lot imo.

I think the most straightforward way to convert is to buy a complete kit as others have mentioned. It's all in one box.

If you want to piece something together and are comfortable doing so, you could do the ford conversion pretty inexpensively if you know someone who can machine the mopar distributor to accept the ford TFI trigger wheel and hall switch. I tried to contact the guy that did the mustang FI conversion on his small block from here but he never responded to his thread or PM's. I ended up selling all my small block distributors and ford TFI stuff to another member on this board, but I don't know if he ever got around to doing anything with it.
If you are really comfortable with doing your own thing, megasquirt is another option, but you are on your own with everything other than the actual controller and software.

There are sequential systems out there for sale (BS3, haltech, FAST, electromotive, etc.) but I doubt if there will ever be a specific (bolt on) one for a mopar. Most of the sequential systems are pretty expensive (except for maybe the BS3).

IMO I don't think there are more than 10 members on this site with big or small blocks (not including late model stuff/swaps in any form) that are converted to fuel injection.

This seems to be the best at the moment. And less than $1900 if you don't need the fuel pump and lines, around $2300 if you do.
There is an article in the December Hot Rod Magazine about installing the FAST EZ-EFI system.
