PUTTING INLINE QUADS ON 426 CRATE, NEED CARB SUGGESTIONS
« on: October 07, 2009 - 02:10:14 PM »
Here is my dilema, we are building another cuda and putting in a 426 crate engine, I am looking for suggestions on the intake and carb set up. marine stage 5 intake P4510633 with holleys, if so what carb number for the side bowl or intake P5153737 with carters/edelbrock other than the oe AFB, if so which edelbrock carter would be good and number  :thinkerg: any suggestions will be appreciated. this will also be a shaker car. thanks David

Probably the easiest set up is the new Eddy AVS Thunder series carbs on the stock AFB intake with stock carb spacing making for the easiest way to add the shaker
if you use the holleys a Pair of the 750 Avenger series vacuum series or the 750 HP 82751 carbs will be the best bet
is this stock CI , Which cam choice , what si the application , crusing , street strip , ETc , what gear etc ?

I am quite happy, even suprised, at how well my Hemi at all RPM ranges.  It has a stock intake with the Vanke mod done.  For carbs I bought 2 new 625 afb Carter's (when they were owned by Federal Mogal), put the jets and rods in per Vanke, and replaced to tops with old AFB tops so a stock air cleaner would fit.  It drives great.

The AVS idea is pretty good though with the adjustable secondaries.

Has anybody tried to put the old AVS carb tops on a Carter carb--so you could easily adjust the secondary opening, yet have two ventureis for the secondary side.

I know, buy a edlebrock thunder carb but I'm cheap, lol.

The secret to getting a great price on a ED carb(s) is to scroll to the end of the Thunder carb listings on Jegs for the "reconditioned" carbs. They look just like new and perform the same, but are much cheaper.  :grinyes:

Better yet go to Edelbrock web site and check their price out on reconditioned carbs. Sometimes they are better, even way better like over $100 cheaper
