I flew up to NYC with a couple of old buddies from Alabama last week, staying on the 22nd floor of the Eastgate Tower Suite Hotel on 39th street between 2nd and Lexington avenues. Good clear weather until cold, rainy friday when we departed the city of loud horns, sirens, and racing cabbies
Here are some pics i took; west towards the Empire State Building - the crane in the process of erecting the newer skyscraper looked to be at least 80 stories up
- if you're not afraid of heights and are certified as a crane operator, i'm thinking the pay would be very good
and south towards one of Trump's (black) Towers located a few blocks up from the U.N. on 1st avenue.
There may not be a time limit for bicycle parking but if you leave it unattended for too long.........things may happen
Theses two ladies were handing out adverts for the musical "Chicago".
You never know what you'll find underground at the various subway stops. This lady was playing the saw accompanied by an instrumental recording of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" underneath 42nd street/6th avenue
No, really - it actually sounded pretty good
Although we did eat at Katz' Deli (hey, if it's good enough for Soupy Sales why not?) my preference is Ben's Deli on 38th street between 7th and 8th avenues. A salami on rye, fries, pickles and cream soda; pardon me while i wipe the drool off my keyboard
We also ate at Sam's (Italian), Pote' (Spanish), and Phoenix Garden (Oriental); all within two blocks of the hotel. Bring a healthy appetite and a money belt
The big entertainment event attended was at the Beacon Theatre; "Ian Anderson Plays the Acoustic Jethro Tull" accompanied at different points by a guest flautist, as well as a violin fellow from Carnegie Hall. Lots of old hippies in the audience, including yours truly. The show included early songs such as 'A Song for Jeffrey', Dharma For One', 'Bouree', and 'Fat Man' up through 'Skating Away...', and the encore was 'Aqualung'
Since we're an automotive forum i better post something mechanical, right? Well, other than a couple of newer Bentleys
, there wasn't much. Parked inside a fenced lot was someone's 'Transformers'-themed ride
Next is this British classic - i'm guessing here
- spotted on 6th avenue in Greenwich Village, and lastly on 14th street just up from Union Square this fellow was in the process of parking his bike. He said it's a 1955 model, pretty cool
I noticed a new trend during this visit -
lots of Vespa scooters!
