Defintely have him take a bigger, better picture of the grille.  The others are right, '71 or no, it's not worth $7500.  Keep his email address handy, he may change his price in a month or so.

Thanks guys. I didnt think it was worth what he wants for it.  I first saw it on Craigslist, and he was asking 9500 for it.

The search is still on....

Quick question. I just found a car on craigslist. What do you guys think a 71 318 colum shift car is worth. The guy is supposed to send me pictures asap. but he says there is no major rust besides the quarter panels. says grill is good, inteior needs redone. I just dont want to get ripped off. Any help would be great!!!

Less than the $7500 we were steering you away from earlier.  $5-6k.

be carefull with that one... looks like pretty much rust to me. quarters, trunk and extentions are pretty much standard issue, front fenders (or at least the driver side) and the inner fender also doesn`t look too healthy around the shock tower... and that`s just from the small pics...
the floors on these cars always rust from the inside and only show the bubbles like in the picture. I think you will find some draining holes once that floor has been blasted...  :2cents:

Thanks for the input. Maybe i will drive there tomorrow and look at it and see all of the rust problems.  The only problem is that the car is 3 hours from my house.  But we will see. Here are a few more pics he sent that i didnt post. one is of one of the floor pans. i was thinking if it had more rust then he originally said, i was going to offer 4k for it. But i dont want to slap the guy in the face with the low offer compared to his asking price.  :banghead:

From what I can see that car is worth the 7k asking price even in this economy. At the end of the day it's still a 71 and has the grille and front valance. 4k may offend the owner. I definitely wouldn't offer less than 5k for it, but you never know. Also if you are planning on making the guy an offer I would take a car trailer and cash.

For what it's worth, if I had the cash i would give him 7k for that car right now.

Good luck.

Well i drove 3 and a half hours to look at it, and didnt get it.  It was pretty rusty.  Looks like they primed it to try to cover things up. The trunk gutters were shot. It needed new metal around the front and rear window. Looks like someone took a ball-peen hammer to the whole drivers side. (no wonder there were no pictures of the drivers side....) Both shock towers were shot. The trunck extensions were completely gone.  The parts that i was told the car came with were not in existance.  and to top all of that off, the frame rail by the steering box was cracked, so i walked away from it.  i figured if i got it and started stripping it, i would find alot more that rust than i wanted.

So the search is still on...

Check out my 71 barracuda project that I'm not able to find the time to finish.

Ask questions....make offer.

Basics : 318, auto on the column, 904. Media blasted and primed. Needs bodywork on passenger door and rocker panel, above windshield, trunk floor and interior floor. Nothing too major though!  Rear defog. Grille is mint. All parts were removed and bagged/labeled.
I purchased everything needed to turn this into a 'cuda and all new seals/weatherstrip etc etc etc.

Car was purchased from dealership in Portland, OR.  I'm 3rd or 4th owner and in Pacific Northwest

I've got a 72 project I'll consider selling. It's pretty far along, and consequently, not cheap (think mid-high 20s), but it's pretty darn cool and I'd say it would only take another few grand to finish it.

http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=55841.0

It's a little further along now since when the ad was posted, but I haven't had much time to work on it. Descretionary income is pretty much non-existant these days. At this point I wouldn't mind cashing out and replacing it with something turnkey.

Anyway, PM if interested.
