MSD 6al question
« on: October 18, 2009 - 11:20:17 PM »
This is actually for my Mom's car, (a 76 Ford Elite), do you need different connections for different cars for an MSD? I tried to find some info on it, but I can't really figure out from their website. Can I just plug it in in place of the old stock ignition box?

if it is a Ford specific box with ford type plugs it should plug in , if it is a generic MSD you need to connect the large red & black wires to the battery & the small red wire to the ign which needs to be on both cranking & running & connect the Purple & green wires to the dist , the orange & black to the coil to work correctly

OK, I couldn't figure out from the site whether or not they had a ford specific one or not. It looked like all they had was one box and you might have had to get adapters for each vehicle. Thanks for the help.

I got a diagrahm somewhere for hooking up a for distributer to an msd. You want me to dig it out?  It was for that fat round plug like what is on your moms car.   How is the Nephem doing by the way?

It turns out the ignition box was good. I was in Arkansas so I couldn't help her, she took it to Autozone and it tested good. I'm going over there today to troubleshoot and try to figure out what is keeping it from starting.

As far as my Nephew Al, he's at our house now, we bought some clothes and stuff for him. He seems happy. This is a huge mess. He has a really bad, deep purple bruise on his side that is raised up. It looks like he was hit with something. We asked him how he got it and he said his dad hit him with a big hammer. He has a bunch of other bruises that appeared the next day after we got him. His father has an excuse for every single bruise, including the knot on his head. I don't believe his dad one bit, especially since he was on drugs all day.

The thing that sux though is CPS did not legally place Nathan in our care, John signed him over to us temporarily. He doesn't know that we are gonna try to take custody. This is one hell of a mess. I hope everything works out. The poor kid is covered in bruises.

When in doubt you can always run the MSD as a stand alone system and use the key'd on to activate it.

On the nephew... I'd let the authorities know about every bruise and document the pics and stories/reasons given. And if you have any seedy friend, have them visit him. I do have some friends like that and noone takes kindly to hitting kids.
