70 Cuda Bumper Removal
« on: October 26, 2009 - 03:30:27 PM »
Can someone tell me the best/easiest way to remove front and rear bumpers on a 70 Cuda?   At quick glance it appears access to the bumper bolts is an issue.

It's easier to remove the bumpers with the mounting brackets still attached.  The front bumper brackets have two bolts per side.  To remove the rear bumper it may be easier to remove the rear valence first.  That will give you access to the bumper bracket bolts.

I have a Challenger, but YES...Definitely remove the valance panel first. You will only scratch it otherwise.    :pullinghair:

Eitehr get some help to hold the bumper while you remove the bracket bolts, or - if you're like me and have to do everything yourself - prop-up and secure the bumper from moving when you release those bolts.

the front isd simple , just remove the valance & remove the 4 bolts into tthe frame
the rear is a conundrum as you need to have the bumer off to remove the valance & the valance of to remove the bumper , this is one of the few things I have not figured out how the factory did it

That was pretty much the conclusion I came to by just looking at it and why I asked the forum.  Guess I'll figure it out when I make the attempt.

For those who have actually removed the rear bumper on a 70 Cuda I'd appreciate input on how you did it.

The easiest way . . . . Sawzall will make quick work of it!   :naughty:  But if you plan to reuse the parts, pull the bottom valance and everything will be exposed.  It can be a challenge to pull the valance but if I can do it . . you should have no problems.   :2thumbs:

Cool.  Guess I'll be givin it a try.  Can't do the sawzall thing though....I'm removing the bumpers to have them re-chromed.  I've heard the after market bumpers from Y1, Paddock, etc. are crap.  Mine are original bumpers in perfect structural condition and fit perfect so I'm goin the chroming route.  Thanks for all the inputs!

I just pull my rear valance off to check for gas leak.It comes off fairly easy. Then just take the nuts off the bumper brackets and pull the bumper and brackets off as one.Take off the brackets for the bumper stops.
