You do not necessarily have to bypass the ampmeter. What I did was what that article shows, and that was to by pass the connections at the bulkhead connector with straight though new #10 wires but retained the ammeter. On the ammeter you simply have to ensure the nuts that hold the terminals in the guage itself are firmly tightened. Not too tight but they do come loose over the years. Mine were firmed up by taking the top nut and terminals off then tightening the bottom nut. Reinstall the ammeter wires and the top nuts. Works like a charm. I have the original 73 harness and all electrical circuits are working perfectly. All it takes is a thorough check over before reinstalling the harness.
