steering input shaft tool
« on: June 13, 2015 - 09:59:55 PM »
Need to replace the seal in my steering box at the input shaft. Chrysler had tool c-3638 that could pull the seal without pulling the box out of the car. Where can  find one?

Just drill a small hole in the seal.  Then run a screw into the hole.  You'll be able to pull out the seal.  I replaced mine with the box in the car.

Thanks I tried the screw trick yesterday and it didn't work so I took a awl and put it between the shaft and seal and popped it out. New seal works great.

Isn't there like 3-4 seals inside the box?

Yes. There are a couple of O rings if you pull the worm gear but not needed if just replacing shaft seal in place.

Might just pull mine and redo the entire thing.

My luck is to pull the shaft seal and replace it and still have leakage or something else happens.
