Price difference between Goodmark and AMD trunk lids
« on: November 02, 2009 - 10:13:12 AM »
There is a huge difference in price between the deck lids, $250. dollars worth difference. I am not building a show car, and i am on a budget, how can i justify the price difference. Is quality the issue here or fit of the lid? I have researched back and all i see are 2 different opinions based on perhaps peoples past experience with both vendors. Can someone please answer my questions with solid information on the differences?  :feedback:

I bought the AMD trunk lid.  I bought the one with the cutouts inside to install rear spoiler later on if I choose.   Overall look is good.  Front to back straightline measurement of AMD was 1/8 inch longer than my OEM 1974 part.  There is still a good sized gap between front of trunk lid and dutchman panel behind rear window.   The "arc" of the trunk lid matched up very well to Goodmark right hand full rear quarter panel.   On the drivers side used an AMD full rear quarter.  The guys when they installed the drivers side quarter panel did not take the time to set the "arc" to match the trunk lid, in fact it appears they pushed down on the quarter panel at trunk opening....end result is the quarter is low relative to the trunk lid.  It would have been a good match if they would have bothered to checked their work along the way.

I sell both AMD and Sherman and I have not had any complaints either way.  I still opted for the AMD panel on my car and did have to do some work to the trunk lid to get the curvature correct.   The end result was very nice and I am very pleased with it.  My trunk lid was on the cuda and cannot personally speak for the Challenger lids. I have had customer that were very pleased with the Sherman trunk lids as well.  I did see one Sherman trunk lid that had the rear left corner lip cut at an angle.  The guys had to weld on a section about 1/2" wide to correct the issue, but this was about 7 years ago and the quality seems to be much better now that there is more competition.

the repo goodmark/sherman decks are not that bad for the challengers, BUT on the cudas i would definately go with the AMD you have the option of holes and the panels fit so much better than the goodmark/sherman deck.
again for the dough difference and head aches spend the money now, hence the old saying you get what you paid for, I have sold plenty of all of these both cuda and challenger
