Thanks in advance.

The decoders I have found online help some, I have not been able to find some information.  I promise I tried looking before posting. :)

Oh, it has a paint code of 999, which I understand to be a special order code.  One website decoder said it was supposed to have side stripes too.  I trust you guys more though.   I will post a couple pictures in a minute.  Rust free except for rear quarters and a spot under the tire.  The exterior has been painted once, but the paint is original in the jams, trunk, and under hood.  The little ID card thing (sorry, I am a Mustang guy :) ) says Huntsville Alabama.

Not sure how to format this...

BH23D 72 272___  (dont want to put whole vin out there)

H6X 999 T5 SA 02I4

abc.........x (might be a y)
  4          9

ABC....M....R...T
         2     1   4

Axle 2
Trim H6X
Paint 999
UBS   B

BH23 31 5 235 214 43120

---

It is a light orange metallic color with black bucket seats and a black interior.  AM radio.  273 with what looks like a one barrel.  It's a notchback (not sure about the terminology, coupe?).   Should it be dual exhaust or single?   It is duel right now.

As I said, I am a Mustang guy but this car is beautiful.   The gas cap is a work of art.   Thank you!  Really appreciate any of your help and wisdom.

This may not help much, but I heard 999 meant they painted it any color they wanted. Remember the Cuda that was painted in a Ford Orange a while back?

Wally,

Thanks for replying, I am completely new to this site  and missed that post.   I find it amazing that they would go out of their own "system" of colors to a Ford color.  Very interesting.

My Uncle's car is really a mystery.   It is a bottom of the line engine, but with the expense of a custom color?  (assuming their was an extra expense...)

I have only seen the actual sales paperwork for one special order paint car so far (1969) but there was no price listed for it.

The page at the link below is for the 1970 model year, but you may find it interesting;

Thanks,

FYI, it has been repainted once, in it's original color.   Under the hood it is the factory paint still, and it is very close or just a hair lighter than what you see in the pictures.   On my regular forum (vint Mustang, ducks for cover :) ), someone said it looked like a faded Emberglo, but I disagree.  I haven't seen the color before anywhere else.

I've seen that color on full sized Mopars from the 60s   Look at 22706 Medium Copper Poly

Here's a 69 RR appears the same

Bullitt,

Would it have been listed as TT-1 on the Fender Tag instead of 999?   My other Uncle swears he remembers it on the full size cars as well.  Given though, he hasn't seen this car in ten years.

It isn't as dark as Medium copper under the hood where it would have not faded from the sun, or on the outside for that matter.  Hmm.

I found this link to a, what I presume is, a medium copper Plymouth.  It's close, but not "pink" enough. (for lack of a better term).

According to the page at this link;

http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/colorAndTrim/1967/67_Plymouth_Stripes_Trim0007.jpg

MM1 & TT1 were both available on the '67 Barracuda. So, whatever color this car is - is not one of those shades or it would be coded normally.

Does the "UBS  B" in my Uncle's fender tag mean that his car had black stripes?
 Like this?

maybe this 66 Imperial, no color chip I see that is pinkish but those images are poor
At the end of the day knowing the code probably is not the issue, if you can remove a piece that has the original color on it & take it to a paint supplier most have a machine that can analyze it & give a modern mix.

Where is the "B" exactly? Under the "U" (upper door frame paint), "B" (buffed paint) or "S" (stripes)?

Great question, I didn't know that the position of the letter mattered.  I will have to have my uncle check next time he is out there.
