Opinion on carb
« on: November 10, 2009 - 04:56:10 PM »
Would you buy this carb if it was the same price as a proform 67202?

This carb is built from all brand new Holley castings and components.
Features tough high shine powdercoat finish that wont deteriorate over time like factory finishes.
specs are as follows:
High flow cnc machined proform main body.
High flow down leg race boosters.
high performance/race AED billet metering blocks
4 corner idle control.
Mechanical secondaries.
Clearview sight plugs for easy no mess float adjustments.
30cc primary pump
50cc secondary pump
heavy duty  base plate, profiled throttle shafts, thin plates and low profile plate screws for the ultimate in flow and metering signal.
Notched secondary float and jet extensions for ultimate fuel delivery in those hard launching cars.
Assembled with all non stick reuseable gaskets and seals.
Compare to Holley# 080496. But this one has been upgraded to, billet metering blocks. a 149.00 value

Looks nice but who sells it. On those Holley carbs the main body sealing surfaces many times aren't flat. On Holley HP carb I hear that Holley mills the surfaces for a proper seal. If the metering block gaskets leak you may see no fuel sweeping out but the motor will not idle smooth, sounds rough like a too big of camshaft. I seen it happen even using new Holley gaskets. Those billet metering blocks seem to be harder to seal I found.

Racers also claim the boosters are install bad on many new carbs. This is were a custom carburetor shop will mill the surfaces flat, align the boosters, flow test the carb along with their private tricks.

I would either buy a use carb off ebay or spend a bit more and get a carb from like Brasswell

I have a Proform and couldn't be happier with it. Without knowing who is selling this carb, it's tough to say. It does look nice, but so do Demon carbs.

My 950 Proform runs really good right out of the box. Have now gone down one size jet though now. I have heard that those that build a carb with Holley bowls etc and a Proform body have had trouble. Mine came from  Proform as a complete unit and I am happy. If the one you mention is guaranteed then go for it.

I have been leaning towards the proform for a while.  I just saw this on ebay, so cannot really say where it is from.  The 950's you are all running, are they the 67202 model?  Thanks!

What makes the Proform so good? Do they make street-only  carbs?

they seem to work great without a choke , start easily , nurse them for a minute or so no problem
