Cuda engine bay blackouts
« on: November 17, 2009 - 09:16:40 PM »
Hey guys,

Does anybody have any good pics of which areas under the hood should be blacked out? I know the radiator support behind the grill should be black but i'm not sure where the black should start/finish.

Cheers!

If you need detailed pictures let me know.  I have a 1970 Barracuda that has its original blackout still.  :2thumbs:

I believe cowl blackout was only done in 1970.  No cowl blackout on other years.

Make sure you black out the bottom of the rad support , it hangs below the valence , also black out the hood latch support as well

You know about the rocker blackout right?  I'm talking about the pinch weld area.  Most light colored cars got this blackout as well.  It's not done on a lot of restorations and the pinch welds are very visable.

Mine is Rallye Red, was it done on those?

I've asked that question before and havn't gotten a good answer.  My guess is that it WAS done.  There have been black cars that even have the radiator area blacked out so I assume the pinch weld areas were too.

Just to let you know...I plan on blacking out that area on my gray car.  It looks so much better if those pinch welds aren't as visable. :2cents:

To do it right it has to be sloppy, they masked the fenders off around the cowl and blasted it getting overspray on the firewall.

The front was just blasted too, overspray is proper. I masked mine off, I just couldn't do it .

I read an article on this a few years ago, the cowls were done in 1970 only, the fronts were done on all years. my car is FE5 as well and the research I've done shows some cowls in this color were done at factory, an original owner car I found was done but I've seen others thar were not.

I've been sand blasting my car recently. Right at the radiator support connecting area, theres big drips of paint going down.
