Anyone watching ?
« on: November 19, 2009 - 02:46:15 PM »
The History channel has been consecutively running a new series on WW II, have any of you been watching these? They are new in the sense some of the footage has not been before shown for public veiwing. Also they have used HD to enhance the quality of the film.

Some scenes are quite graphic, I would not recommend young children be allowed to see this quite honestly. But it is real History, not "doctored" documentary or any made for movie type footage. IT IS WAR, what war was like. No politicians grandstanding and telling the generals how it should be done. War is hell, but if you have enter into a war, then fight it like a war..............in the end fewer lives will be lost.

I have been watching as well good show.  Thanks for the reminder.   I agree that some of the scenes are not for younger viewers.  A lot of history we have never seen before.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I've recorded all of them and watched the first 5 or 6 so far.  It's very good and it's telling the story from the viewpoint of 12 people in different parts of the world.  I like how it fades in and out from the actual veteran talking to the actor's voice so you really get the feeling that it's in the veteran's actual words.

It's very graphic and they are not sugar coating.

I have enjoyed them a lot. I have not seen the very first one or the very last one but all the ones inbetween a couple of times. Very interesting. I had both grandfathers in that war, one a major on the ground and my other grandfather who was a B-17 tailgunner.
