You can't go wrong with the good, old reliable Linksys WRT54G.

Any difference between the linksys wrt54g and the wrt54GL? I ordered the WRT54GL from amazon.com and was the same price as netegg.com.

I've been running a Linksys Wireless-N Ultra RangePlus 2.4Gb or 5.0Gb router for about the past three months and must say that I'm very pleased with how well it has worked so far.  It even came with a very simple setup cd, where all I had to do was run the CD, connect the router to the modem & computer for initial operations (may later be ran wirelessly to communicate with the router), and then run LELA (Linksys EasyLink Advisor) to add any security encriptions along with setting up the wireless connections.  Overall, I thought it was simple to set up and the quality of the connection throughout the house is superb.

It cost around $110-$120, but it's been very useful so far. :2thumbs:

I have always used Linksys routers and am happy with them.  As for the password, there are sites on-line that will generate a truly random pass code, which would be the safest.

I agree with Street Challenged - I work in IT and have always used the Linksys stuff at home (they are owned by Cisco). Get the dual band wireless N router - no external antennas to mess with and is backwards compatible with your wireless G/B radio in you laptop. Wireless N is the newest out there so if you buy it you can future proof yourslf
But it does rund about 100$  - a little more expensive then others

I also suggest you use WPA for the security - that way all you have to do is remember a pass phrase and not a string of nonsensical numbers
