Is there a good way to plug these ???
« on: November 26, 2009 - 04:19:10 PM »
You can see the two things sticking out of the fire wall to the right to the heater motor. That's where the A/C lines where. Does someone sell something to cap off those lines?
I do not want to remove them......
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Not sure there is one.  I pulled my condensor out and I have seen some make plastic plugs to fill the holes but don't know where to get them?   :dunno:

You will have to fabricate a cover to go over the pipes or have a pipe made up in a "U" shape with fittings on to screw onto protruding pipes, not that hard to do if you have access to fittings.   :2thumbs:

I   '' ASSUME   '' that there's nothing going on with these lines as far a s pressure or anything running through them at this point.
Am I correct?
If so, I think I will fabricate a cover that looks decent.....

If you have any intentions to re-enable the AC, I would cap them with the correct size brass plugs/caps.

Nice firewall and underhood BTW.

There are pretty large rubber caps in the help section of auto parts stores that I used. They did crack eventually. I like the idea of finding brass caps, need to figure out the size though...

Nothing inside but air and maybe a bit of residual oil that is why you will need to seal the lines. If you ever want to reconnect A/C make sure that the evaporator is flushed out.
Any decent auto spares should have fittings in their air conditioning section, usually out back, or find an A/C mechanic or "hose doctor".   :2thumbs:

I don't know if I'd want an air tight seal there.  Any moisture present will cause it rot out from the inside out.  A/C oil is also like brake fluid in the sense that it readily absorbs moisture so now that it is open it is surely moisture saturated.  You may want to make some plastic caps or something and drill a vent hole in it.  It'll still run the risk of rotting, but hopefully the moisture will eventually evaporate.

BTW, that engine bay is immaculate.  I'm jealous!

Given your nice engine bay, you probably don't want to do what I did.   :grinno:

I bought a bag of different sized plastic caps from Summit Racing to plug my unused AC nozzles.

Its standard practice to close off AC lines on components to minimize foreign object entry. The correct caps will seal it better than anything else and will have a finished look. You could always take your shop vac to the lines just before you cap them to make sure there is no moisture inside.

I guess plastic caps and some sort of fabricated cover would look and be ok but as far as sealing it up, you can do no better than using refrigeration plugs and caps.
