5.7 Hemi oil change - almost

I was ready to change the oil on my son's 07 Charger until I looked under the front end.  First, I couldn't find any area to use my floor jack on safely.  Then my car ramps were too high to clear the front lower bumper panel.   :banghead:  And then comes the next obstacle: the huge plastic cover that hides the oil pan and filter.  What's the deal with these new cars?  Makes me really, really appreciate my F150.  Did I say that?!

So for me to do an oil change on this car, I would have to buy some low profile car ramps. I would rather spend the $12 difference between DIY ($22) vs paying someone else ($34).  Not to mention the cost of new car ramps.  Some things just aren't worth it IMO.
I surrendered to defeat  :bricks1:  and told my son to go to the dealership for a $34 oil change.

It's really not so bad - just confusing the first time.  (I have a Chrysler 300C)

That plastic piece (belly pan) is just held on with four 10mm screws.  Once you take that off, everything is right there.  The filter is even easy to access.

You can jack it up on the crossmember - no problem.  I actually drive mine up on ramps, and then put jackstands under the crossmember.  (I know that the ramps are strong - I just have a hard time completely trusting them!)

Don't sweat it - It is actually not a bad job at all, especially compared to a lot of other modern cars!   :D

well equipment is a one time expense , changing the oil is a constant expesne

Oil changes on those cars are cake walks compared to some other vehicles.  Once the bottom shield is removed everything is easy access.

Yes, it's VERY easy. You remove that "service tray" and the oil drain plug and oil filter are right there in the same area code.   :grinyes:

Thanks everyone for the  :2thumbs: up on this one.  I will probably buy me a new set of ramps.  I really do like doing my own oil changes because I know it is being done right.  I've been changing my own oil for over 40 years.  I have NEVER been to a quick lube or dealership for oil changes in my life!  That was the reason for my frustration.
