Upper radiator hose
« on: December 03, 2009 - 03:31:59 PM »
Okay, I have an upper radiator hose with the number EB J ECR 80M H50 labeled on the hose itself. It has a paper tag with Gates ECR 875 on it.

This is in a car with a 440 transplant with a Griffin 26" radiator...inlet on the passenger side tank.  I looked for a new hose for the above unit, but, don't find the current hose referenced except several years ago so I have not found today's equivalent.  It was mentioned on Ford and Vette sites five years, or so back.

So far, the upper hoses that I have ordered were molded wrong and were too short.  I can go with a flex hose, but, I don't like them...have too many things I need to want to spend a bunch on a fancy bendable metal hose. ;D

No, if one end was straight and did not bend back, it would be closer....the link has apparently expired, but, I will try the advance search, I thought I had tried but I got no hits...might have tried the longer number, tho.

I have not pulled the old one off yet, so a rough measurement of the center line would be somewhere around 21", I think....

I will go try to find the one you found and see what it says....

Thanks, Steve  :)

Nope, that one is only 12.6" long and is 1.75" in diameter...I believe the top hose is 1.5".  thanks for helping!

Maybe...I cannot quite tell from the picture which way it bends.  It is not in stock at my closest store.  It needs to come up from the water outlet and bend toward the passenger  side and then back to the front to radiator inlet.  Cannot tell if that one bends back, or not.  Almost looks it was intended for an inlet on the drivers side of the radiator.

Yea drivers side....I've been pulling up vehicles I'm somewhat familiar with & found this # under a '94 ford 3/4 ton w/4.9, looks like it could be trimned to fit.

Looks like that one bends the wrong way also..but?

Strangely, I started digging thru Rock Auto and found this number as a Dodge p/u hose   as well as some gm cars   ACDELCO Part # 24058L
it appears to bend in the opposite direction, but, when I go to Napa, I get the 7634 that you suggested above....wish I lived close to a bigger town with a big Napa....gonna have to pull the hose and go to town, I guess, but, we are currently having a week of winter in west Texas and I am not too enthusiastic at the moment.  No drain on a Griffin so it requires siphoning,

here, I hung a picture of the set up on my site....looks like the hose is about 21" or so long...inlet is further to the passenger side than stock radiators....I suspect the stock 26" is on the drivers side and not very far from the cap which is in the center.

Probably, it is going to take a trip to a parts store with a big selection and go thru them.

Thanks, Dave, I believe the inlet on the radiator is further over on the Griffin as in the picture.  I have a couple of numbers to run down.  One of my friends up north is using a napa 7530 trimmed on both ends and the napa 9117 may fit as well.  the 7634 may work as well.  Hopefully I can find them in stock and see what looks the best.  :)

Okay, I found two that will fit the 26" Griffin universal tranverse flow aluminum radiator that is in the car....upper inlet on the right hand tank which places it in front of the heater hose bracket on the alternator.

I am using Gates 22484 which is Napa equivalent to NBH 9117 for a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0.

Figured out the hose that was on it was a Gates 20875 which is virtually identical.  That is a Napa NBH 7602.  It fits many cars including a '70 Charger R/t.

Maybe that will help the next guy.  I appreciate all the input.

It just might. I'm about to jump in to some upper hose interchanges on my car so this is all very helpful. Thanks!
