Blower Motor...how does it come apart
« on: December 09, 2009 - 04:41:02 PM »
I'm rebuilding my non A/C heater box and am to the point of restoring the blower motor.  (you'll have to excuse my lack of motor terminology) I have the two halves apart and the main shaft as well as the holder for the brushes is out.  What I can't figure out is how the magnets around the outside edge come out of the case.  I've tried pulling on it...tried to pry on it with a small screwdriver...but it feels really solid in there.  There are 3 or 4 "dimples" in the case.  I think those are for locating the magnets...not holding them in the case but I'm not sure.

I need to blast and paint the two motor halves  so the magnets need to come out.  Thanks

I've never taken apart a Challenger blower motor, but other dc motors at work about the same size have had the magnets epoxied in place. May or may not apply. :clueless:

Jules(the guy that rebuilds wiper motors and blower motors) said they are not epoxied.  He said they are just usually stuck from rust.  I'll try a little harder to get it out.  Bullitt...can you tell if your motor was origonally black or was it plated?  Dad said the motor was never replaced and it's black.  I thought all of the factory installed ones were plated.  It was the replacement motors that were black.  HooD said that he thought his was black.  Maybe they changed them in the later years.

Mine came satin black...I have seen a silver finish on some, not sure if it was plate or paint

The 70 motors were clear zinc plated and the 71+ were painted black. A lot of the 70 motors were either touched up with silver paint or just changed over to black paint.
