Remove paint from bumper fillers.
« on: December 23, 2009 - 01:04:21 PM »
I have a 73 challenger and need to remove cracking paint from the bumper fillers. Since they are rubber, I am hesitant to use a chemical paint remover on them. Does anyone know of a good way to get old paint off?

Thanks;

There's probably a dozen ways to remove it without affecting the plastic.
Have you gone to your favorite auto body store near you to ask them?

What Corvette restorers use is this so as not to affect the gel coat. Marine repair outlets probably use something similiar.

They can be beadblasted as well.

I used a gel type paint stripper that my body guy gave me. Then repainted them argent and used a flex agent in the paint.

Thnaks guys. Looks like I need to go to the paint shop and see what they have. I dont have a spray paint rig, and the challenger is black so I thought I could get by with a rattle can black. Is the flex agent something you have to mix, or does it come pre mixed in a rattle can?

Thanks;

You can buy the flex primer in a can.

Your nearby paint store should have the color and mixing agents available.

As an option, you could paint the part using a Preval sprayer. ACE hardware carries these.
