driveshaft interchangeability

So Im going to be asking a lot of stupid question over the next few weeks, Im a newbie to Mopar and Im re-assembling my challenger.

Im buying a smallblock 360 and trans, both crate man. in 94, both ready to drop in, at a great price. Has alternator, EVERYTHING but carb.

What I need to know is will my BB driveshaft mate to the 727, and will this 727 even fit?

I know I'll need small block engine adaptors, any suggestions on where to get them? Anything else other than radiator and mounts?

The 727 will fit fine, I am not sure on the driveshaft. I'm sure somebody will chime in to help with the driveshaft.

a big block 727 will not fit a 360 engine. But the bb 727 shaft will fit the sb 727.  But a dana shaft is shorter than an 8 3/4 and a challenger shaft is a different length compared to a cuda shaft. 

What rearend is in your car?  The smaller rears take a different length too

I assumed when he said he bought the 360/727 together it was a small block 727 not bb

Al needed the size of the rear, such as 8 3/4 8 1/4 or Dana 60

the rear end of the 727 is in the same place with either the big or small block so assuming the diff is not being changed the driveshaft will drop in

So ignorant question, how can I tell which size rearend it is? Thanks

if it has a differential cover then it is a dana or 7.25, if it is a solid housing with the pig or center section only removes from the front then it is an 8.75

Some 727 tailshafts are different lenths, so if your new one is the same length as the old one, then yes, you can use the same shaft.

If you have console shift, be sure the mounting ears for the bracket are on your new one also.
