Check Your Anti Freeze
« on: December 27, 2009 - 03:15:30 PM »
Started my car today to run it for a while .I was sure my anti freeze protection level was good but for what ever reason I checked it . I was only good to zero . Even though I'm parked in a cold garage it could have been big money trouble . It is not uncommon to go well below that here in upstate NY .Better safe then sorry . Even if like me you are "sure" check it . :money: :money: :money:

About a week or so ago it got down to -20*. Prior to the cold coming I filled up the rad. in my work van with coolant. The thermostat froze. It puked all over.Overheated. Ever change a thermo. in -20*?  It's sitting outside.I'm drivin' the Duster with no problems. Don't feel like digging into it... :eek4:    Yup... Check yer antifreeze... :nono:

Summer ?? What is that , we might hit 85*f or 30*C 5 times in a year & you never know what month that might happen , it could be as early as April or as late as Oct , I have seen snow on the ground in every month of the year

Crap, it was cold here at 47 today.   Actually I really believe we are getting our winters back across the nation like it was 40 years ago.

Because I run mine on the race track from time to time there is very little AF in it.  But, I keep it in the garage where the temp is kept above freezing so the Windex, Simple Green, waxes, cleaners and other stuff doesn't freeze.  BUT, if I ever need to drive it in the really cold...well it probably wouldn't start anyway cuz it has no choke, 9qt. pan w/10w40 oil, E85 fuel...

Excellent advice, though!
