trunk latch color, door latch hardware color?
« on: January 03, 2009 - 07:14:14 PM »
After noticing that I did not remove my trunk latch I started to wonder what other stuff looked like from the factory. I have seen door latches that have been restored and some people paint the screws body color and some leave them bare metal. I was wondering which way is correct? I will post this pic of the underside of my trunk lid and you can see what I am talking about, not the latch mechanism but the other side that secures to the latch.

From the low mile T/A, note how it had to be slid over some after it was painted as an assembly;

Note the body color bolts and the lack of paint on the flat area above the latch itself in this photo. It appears that there may have been a jig, a prop rod of some kind bolted in that latched to the bottom of the trunk lid to hold it open for painting.

Once the paint was dry, the rod would have been removed & the bolts re-used for the latch.

Cool, thanks for the pics Barry. How would the hood hinges and hardware be painted? After thinking about it I guess it was bolted on and adjusted before paint and then it was all painted at one time? I know now that when I go over the door latches I will have to media blast the screws and leave them bare when I re-install. I guess I better hunt up the trunk latch bolts so they will have a bit of paint on them.

The entire car was painted as an assembly, panel alignment happened before paint.

Front & rear valances were painted on the car & then removed to allow for the lights & bumpers to be installed.

Outside painted mirrors were painted off the car, that is the only exception I can think off.

I do not know if Barry still has them, but he has in the past sold a disk of pictures of the original 173 mile Challenger.  It's worth it.

Is it possible to get these pictures posted again?
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I have gotten quite tired of posting photos on this site only to have them disappear.  :banghead:

 I have photo discs of the whole car for sale though, you can print out an order form at the link below if you want to buy one.
