Will a 275 width tire fit well on a 10" rim?
« on: December 27, 2009 - 12:11:27 AM »
I'm looking to potentially purchase a set of Cop Car rims for my Cuda... Wheel Vintiques offers repros at different widths and diameters. I need a pair of the 15x10s with the 5.5" offset to fit my car properly. I'm considering tires with a 295 or a 275 width. The 295s will fit great but the overall diameter of the rim and tire is only 26.62". I'd like it to be closer to 28". The 275s will give me a 28" diameter, but the recommended rim width for a 275 is 7.5" - 9.5"... My question is: Does anyone know for sure if a 275 width tire will fit and work all right on a 10" rim?

the 295 will fit but generally it needs an 8 " rim to fit properly unless you offset the springs in

I , and a lot others, have done that many times with no problems...
If you got the room for it on your car, (5,5 BS ??? ) just go for it..

What sidewall height are you looking at?  For the same sidewall (45, 50, etc) the 295 should be taller.  If you want the 295, just get the sidewall ratio that gives you the overall diameter you want.  As for a 10" wheel, be sure to do your homework on test fitting on your car, because that is in the range of might fit or might not depending on how your suspension is set up.

The 295 / 15 only comes in 50, and 65 I think , and the 65 is around 30" dia, - BIG, too big   :clueless:

The largest tires I could find readily available (with matching-brand front tires) in 295s were 295/50R15s -- that's a sidewall height of 5.8" and a diameter of 26.61. The largest 275 that is readily available with matching-brand front tires is 275/60R15. The sidewall height on the 275 is 6.5" with a diameter of 27.99. I prefer the diameter of the 275s but wasn't sure if they could fit well on an 10" rim -- I figure they would mount on the rim, but I'm not sure how good they'll look. I may have to go with the 295s -- I do have a spring offset kit, so they will work great with 10" wheels having a 5.5" backspacing. I like the width of the 295 tire -- I was just hoping to fill the wheel well a bit more.

The 295 = 295 mm. aint much wider than the 275 = 275 mm. Shoulder to shoulder, less than an inch -   There will be no problems going with 275 on 10" - looks great..

Yes, 275 will fit on a 10" rim. 275mm = 11", so the section width is wider than the rim. with a tread width of around 9.75", the tire is only slightly narrower than the rim. Not ideal, but not awful either. My Bro runs 275/60 on 10" rims on his Charger. Looks decent.

However, I'd be more concerned about fitting a 5.5 backspace wheel on your car with the stock rear end housing and stock location springs. See below the picture of my 295/50s on a 8" rim with 4.75 back space. Granted, a 275 will have less sidewall bulge, but your also adding .25 back space to the wheel.

The 295/50s on a 10" rim will fit fine with the offset springs. I'm planning the same setup on my Cuda except with Magnum 500s.
