ideal 440 carb?
« on: December 28, 2009 - 05:36:13 PM »
Just as the title states.. I have a 750 eddy on my 440 now, and I am looking for a change.  I have no idea if there are any mods in the motor as it sits.  I know it has an accel coil, torker intake and headers.  This is my first mopar, so Im not overly familiar with what they sound like stock.  It seems to have a lobe to it, but Maybe they all sound like that.  Anyways, i will eventualy be adding a stroker kit and better heads, and I only want to buy one carb.  I have been looking at the proform carbs, and i was thinking 850-950.  Whats the big difference between their street series and race series?  any help or other suggestions are appreciated.

You are sniffing down the right track.

Yeah, it sounds you are more than stock for sure. I have an 850 street series on mine, but just because that was as big as they went with a choke plate. It sounds like with your mods you might want to go bigger, but for me I didn't want to be choke less in the cold weather here.   :sadwavey:

I have consistant used the Proform Race series carbs & doubled the CI so if you are looking at a 500" stroker at least a 950 CFM , 1050 is also possible if you are looking at a serious build with some heads that flow a lot of air

great, thanks.  Just one question, if im not going to do the stroker kit for a season or 2, wont a 1050 cfm be too much until its stroked?  will it cause drivability issues until I stroke it?  would 950 cfm be a comfortable medium for both combos?  thanks again.

The 950 will definatly work better on the smaller / possibly stock engine but may limit the top potenial of the larger stroker build . there is really no good solution for this except EFI which would adjust for the displacement difference , I have not tried to run a 1050 on a mild 440
