Are KYB shocks good?

They are actually for my Nissan. Monroe are considerably more expensive. I don't want to buy cheap, crappy shocks though. I don't need performance, it's just an Altima. Are KYB ok? Or should I look for another brand?

if you dont care about brand just get middle of the road shocks from autozone or kragen. yes the kyb shocks are better than the manroe.

KYBs are very good shocks.

I have a set of adjustable KYB's on my Honda CRX and they are great.


I know the low end KYBs are decent as well, you shouldn't have many problems.

Ok, thanks yall. I'm gonna go ahead and get those. They are 150 for all the shocks, and another 50 for the boots. Thanks again.

What KYBs are you getting?  The ones I got for my 72 have the standard steel shields/covers  and not boots.

But I agree on the cost...very affordable if they are good. Thats why I gave them a try. Havent driven with them yet.

I've used KYB gas-a-justs and hated em. They ride quality with em basically stunk. They felt as though they had too much gas pressure and rode extremly rough. Got much better results after swtching to Rancho in the applications.

I had ranchos years ago on my truck and they were terrible.

i guess it just boils down to specific apps and perference.

I am hoping they are bearable for now.  I installed stiffer Tbars too so the car may end up driving like a dump truck..LOL

I have used KYB's on several cars and ended up replacing them each time with Bilstiens.  KYB's are probably good shocks for the money, but, they seem to be very harsh in one direction....they worked well on smooth roads, but on wavy roads, the shox always seemed to "catch" the body movement too harshly rather than dampen it.  Been about 8 years since I used any so perhaps they have revalved them since.

I prefer the Bilsteins or the Edelbrocks tho they cost more

I would have preferrd the bilsteins but ran into issues finding shocks in the right length and valving due to my installing add a leafs in the rear.

Not to mention they were more than twice the price.

Figured I;d try the KYBs first and see what happens and go from there.
