Auto tranny with 4spd or overdrive?
« on: January 04, 2010 - 09:31:19 PM »
Hi everyone  So I got my suspension parts together and have the motor on its way but I am still having a hard time trying to figure out what to do with my tranny. :dunno: :clueless: I plan on really driving the car that is why I would like the 4th gear or an overdrive so that I don't kill my savings account just to drive my cuda. I am putting in a small block stroker and I would really like to keep my 727 but have an overdrive gear.

I am really liking the idea of the Gear vendors unit but I haven't found enough positive feedback on this site about them.

I have thought about getting the Keisler chevy auto but I am scared since they filled chapter 11 that I won't have any support if anything goes wrong with the tranny. I don't know if it is true that they filled chapter 11 or if its just a rumor?

I am aware of the A518 swap but I am not mechanically there to do this swap myself.  I need something more of a bolt solution then a custom fabricated piece.

Is there any other options out there?

Ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

The Gear Vendors is a great system & you do not have to cut the floor to fit it , it is indestructable as well but the Price is the only downside with it , the 518 mod requires floor surgury but can be made to work as well .

Thanks Chryco. With the Gear vendors unit do I have to get a custom drive shaft? The Gear vendors unit is half the price of the keisler tranny :faint:

Your existing driveshaft will have to be shortened.  Hands down the best improvement I have made to my car 5 years ago.  Heres a current thread on Moparts about the GV.

I started out with the dimmer switch that comes with the kit mounted on the floor above the other one.  Then my left foot stopped working so I had to go to a button on the center console below the shifter.  The auto/manual box is mounted on the dash under the radio.  The main control box is up high under the dash behind the gauges.

The 518 would be the least amount of work to do on the install.
