Need a new car
« on: January 08, 2010 - 12:10:01 PM »
Can't get myself to put out the big bucks for a new car for anything other than a new Challenger.  Is there really that much difference between the R/T and the SE?  The 250HP the 6 cylinder has seems like it would be plenty of power for a daily driver.  Besides the 10K price difference is the insurance a lot higher?
I may be schizophrenic,
but at least I have each other

I can't answer your insurance question, but that 6 banger engine does quite well. I was in your shoes and couldn't quite get myself to cough up that extra 10K for a Hemi.

With Mopargirls Chall she had ordered an SE with a few options & when we crunched the #s the R/T had most of the options she was adding at no extra cost & the R/T only ended up abput 3k more the the SE loaded up so it became a no brainer to order the R/T with the manual tranny that she wanted that was not even an option in the SE or SXT

yes the rt has alot more power and some things you can not get on a 6 banger for full coveradge i only pay 110 a mounth through state farm but i have my house with them also and i am 35 and the car is a 2010.but in the futcher the 6 banger wount be worth anything and the hemi will, that is also something to think about

If it's for a dailly driver I'd consider the SE. In my case I think a car like this has to have a V8. I'm like you though as I didn't think the upgrade to a SRT was worth the extra cash. I'm not going to go racing so the R/T works for me.

Check with your insurance agent for the difference in insurance.
The R/T is rated for the same gas mileage as the SE, actually the R/T with auto has cylinder deactivation, so the highway mileage will be better. And as said before, the resale will be better on an R/T.

The insurance on the s/e will definitly be lower(i drove a s/e challenger 09)i had called my ins co before i drove it,and asked if s/e would be cheaper than the r/t and it was,the r/t would be 70 bucks higher a month,(than my 04 stratus or 09 challenger r/t)but the 09 s/e was only going to be like 7 bucks higher a month than my 04 stratus for the 09 s/e( that is liability, and my stratus is paid for,and at that point i was going to pay cash for the 09 challenger s/e)Im (at the time 41) no tix in last 7 yrs,dwi in 90(non factor)
Performancewise the 09 challenger s/e i drove had plenty of power(if your not going racing,or are not tempted at the light when some puke pulls up with a tri wing turd overrevving his underperforming 4 cyl).If your going to race pull out your classic challenger and blow them away. The s/e challenger will hold their own as far as value down the road as well, more r/ts made than s/e's.Like i stated in a different post,im busting my butt trying to get one.if you can afford it,do it,you wont regret it.Thats the way i feel about it.
