Minimizing orange peel
« on: January 13, 2010 - 06:03:54 PM »
Need a few pointers on how to minimize orange peel while painting. I painted the underside of my hood and deck lid and a few other items, and i have a bit of an orange peel problem. Not bad, but i definently could use some help. Any experts out there care to help out a poor struggling bro with some painting advice?

The main thing is make sure your are using the proper speed reducer and/or hardener.  If you are getting too much peel, you need to slow the drying time down to allow the paint to flow.

What is the air temp where you are spraying?  What materials are you using?

There are many factors that induce orange peel.

High humidity and too much air pressure at the gun are two that come to mind.

Outside temp has been in the 40's with high hunidities, however i can heat my garage to the mid 70's fairly easy. I have been using PPG products, DBC base coat, DCU2021 clear, and DT870 reducers.
