backlit gauges?
« on: January 08, 2010 - 09:17:03 PM »
I have a '72 barracuda I am restoring. Are the gauges bac klit or does it have a light bar? I have a dimmer switch which isn't working if they are back lit..if it has the light bar then I am missing it...

a) If it is a light bar, can I buy a repro somewhere?

b)If it is just a trim piece, where can I find it?

Thanks for any responses

Do you have Rally gauges, or the standard gauges without the tachometer? The gauges are lit from the light bar above. The standard gauge light bar has 3 bulbs. The Rally gauge light bar has 4 bulbs. If your dimmer switch isn't working, then your light bar won't work either. That's a common problem. You can find light bars on E-Bay. No repros for them unfortunately.   :P

Check the Parts for Sale section here.  The Rallye will work, IIRC, but you'll be paying more.

Unless you have a wide rectangular hole above your gauges the light bar is there...Has to be grounded to work but it's not unusual that the panel dimmer switch needs cleaning or rebuilding.
