I agree with you about repo's not necessarily fitting perfect. They always seem to need some persuation. That was my experience when I replace the quarter, inner and out fender wells on a 69 Camaro I used to own. That is part of my hesitation to do it again. I remember how much of a pain it was. And, you are right on the costs. They can get pretty prohibative. There are no big "local" shows that I could pick the panel up from. I try to order as much of the big stuff at once to try and spread the shipping across more pieces.

I am still torn. I have been in a holding pattern for working on it as a result. Haven't completely decided what to cut and repair and what to replace. I am also afraid of what else I might find as I start cutting deeper inside.

Thanks for the input.

I know about being stalled so you just have to jump in and get some stuff done. It all adds up in the end and you'll forget how much of a pain in the butt it was once it is fininshed. But doing nothing is not helping any.  71340RT ordered a buch of stuff from Dave at Roseville. He got the discount and all of it came on a pallet. He said shipping wasn't that bad.  Get on the phone and get some stuff ordered.

one of my inner wheel wells was torn all to crap...not rusty they had just had a blow out. I straightened it as much as i could and welded up the splits and holes. Then i bedlined all of the wheel wells and the underside of the car for 2 reasons. Reason number one is it cuts down on the road noise significantly, and second it didnt hurt that it helps hide your patch panel weld lines. You can buy a bed liner kit for 80 bucks at Oreillys which includes a gallon of bedliner and a roller. I have 2 gallons on the bottom of my car, if you have a rotissery and can flip the car up on its side you can bedline the whole car in a hour, let it dry for 12 hours or so then put the next gallon on. If you are building a car to drive and not a trailer queen as i did and you have access to a rotissery i would highly suggest undercoating the crap out of it.

70burntorangeT/A, that has been be delima. It is not a show car. But, I want it to be nice and not look like some hack job (which is what the last quarter replacement looks like). My original plan was to just fix the small rust issues and straighten the body and repaint. I found more issues with the replacement of the quarter than anything. Rust issues so far have been really minor. I was planning on using bedliner or that lizardskin stuff I have seen advertised. You are right, I never noticed the amount of wrinkling in the outer well until I scraped all the undercoating off. I am still on the fence on what to do.

Thanks for the input.

depending on your rear ride height i dont think anyone would ever beable to see your wheel wells anyways. but can you tell that it has been messed up if you are looking in from the trunk?

No, not really. If you really crane and your head up in by the gas filler tube, you cand kind of tell. The more obvious is the seam created when they replaced the quarter. They did not go up to the factory seam. They stopped right at the base of the sail panel and went across. I think I can clean it up more so it is virtually unnoticeabe though.

ANy thoughts on replacing metal from a parts car verses a new stamping from Goodmark, AMD, etc.? I saw some very good looking pieces on eBay for reasonable prices. I would think fitment would be better on the original parts, assuming they were removed correctly and nicely and no damage done to them.

I spend some more time examining everything and when they replaced the quarter, the welded everything along the seam between the quarter and the other panel instead of spot welding like factory. Plus, in places they used brass. Once you get all the paint and bondo off, the welds are pretty crappy looking. I think I could dress most of them to look decent, but again, it has that hack job look to it (even though it was not me).

That's my story for now. The next month or so are not going to be good for working on it anyway with a lot of OT at work and family birthday's (including mine). So, I guess I have some time to decide and order stuff if I want to be here when I am ready.

If it were me i would probably go for the new one.....even though there are alot of people who would go with a used one. My thinking is a new one will 100% forsure have no rust what so ever. And i have also heard that the fitment on the new full quarters is pretty good
