Just curious if we have any members that worked at Challenger/Cuda assembly plants back in the day when our cars were being assembled?

Brad I did not but I had 2 or 3 good friends that did work at the st louis plant.  I have heard stories for sure about them being up there when they were built.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Like them putting bottles on a string so they would make a noise starting and stopping or a piece of metal to do the same thing or a bottle cap on a string.  I have found some of these back in the day.

Interesting choice of games, there. Some workers at a Ford Taurus assembly plant got in trouble for that kind of stuff. I think it was because the fender washer thatwas tied on the string, got the car turned in for a NVH complaint under warranty. I know a mechanic who had to deal with a Taurus like that, and he wound up stripping the entire interior out, and driving it while sitting on a milk crate! That was when he found the washer! When he posted his repair, I guess the Ford higher-ups went ballistic. He didn't have the only car with this trick, but he was the first to find the offending piece. I bet there are plenty of wicked stories like that, associated with all the musclecars built "back when", and it would be interesting to get some of those on paper.

I worked at a CPDodge truck dealership back in the day when I heard the dealers son call to the plant and talk to some of my friends to get vehicles made the way they wanted them.  Parts were put on that were not on build sheets or the fender tag.

I've talked to snowdog a little about his time on a line.  His profile shows he's 51 so I'm not sure which models he worked on?

I think there was a member here that actually worked at the plant...  there was this story on how many drug and alcohol addicted vietnam veterans were working there.   the story was posted here in relation to a very poor quality NOS hemi K-member someone bought off e-bay.  Think it was 2 years ago... cant remember...

I vaguely remember that guy but dont remember his name. I think Carlwalski is the one who bought the k-member and was noting how nasty the welds were. If I remember right it was said that some parts that did not pass quality control were later sold as parts to dealers or something along those lines.

That’s correct, it was Volares and Aspens back in 76-78 for me.  My dad worked down at Dodge Main for many (30?) years and my brother worked they also at an earlier time during the summer for college money.  He actually drove the cars off the line and to the parking lot or repair area for what they couldn't fix on the line.  I believe it was back in the Cuda/Challenger days.  Because it was tight in that area he got used to it and would drive like a maniac in our driveway.  I know that’s sounds weird, but I lived in Allen Park and the houses were tight together and we park all the cars (3-4) in the driveway.  So when my dad or mom had to get out he would back out all the cars for them at lightening speed.  There was at most a foot on each side of the car when he did this a full throttle.  He only took the drain spout out once, everybody else did it umpteen times.  My dad even put carpet on the side of the house because mom scraped the side of the house with that big old Newport so many time.  My old friends still bring that up to this day.  Lots of good stories when I was there.  But I don't want to bore you with them....................Like I just did with this post, I just made.

Although not mopar, my uncle worked at the ford plant in the chicago heights area forever. The stories I heard... OMG.. you would never want to buy one!

Well, its funny you mention that.  My first car was a 70 Cuda with 383 & 4 spd.  It had 383 on one side and 340 on the other from the factory.  Emblem on the hood and the hockey stick on the quarter panel were marked that way.  It was a blast getting into races on Telegraph Road and everybody though it was a stock 340 and beat people so badly with the 383 under the hood.

Well this ones not car related, but plant related.  Back when we used to go out on the roof of Dodge Main for lunch on afternoon shift we had to go thru a window, but it was cooler out there and the air was a little better out there.  Dodge Main was at one time the largest plants in the world (square feet wise), because it had many so stories/floors (7-8 floors high in some places), hence plenty of roofs to go out on.  Anyways, when we would go out on the roof it was littered with whiskey bottles, ripple bottle, MD 20-20 bottles and.........plenty of needles for the big "H" or whatever else was popular back in the day.  It was always interesting leaving that place at night, so much of it was unused and nobody was around.  On time when I was leaving afternoon shift (about midnight) two guys were arguing and one of the guys arguing grabbed the other and stuffed a gun in his face.  Nobody else was around, I just kept going and got out of there.  I don't know if you guys are familar with that area, but outside the plant was even worse.  Hamtramck on the edge of Detroit, was rough back then and didn't get any better since then.
