Putting Steering Coupler On Gear Box
« on: January 12, 2010 - 04:54:05 PM »
I have had my steering column out of my car for well over a year and am putting it back in today.  I am trying to get that coupler back on the steering box and am just making sure that there is not a notch cut into the splined area of the coupler that needs to find a groove on the shaft of the box.  It just seems like I am working way too hard to get it back on.  Any feedback would be appreciated.  Is there a trick to getting it on?  Thanks!
Jason

the coupler only goes on one way..I looked at mine and there is one spline that is different, take a close look and you will find it

Figures, I guess I will pull it back off (made it about 1/4 the way on).  Thanks!

on the bottom edge of coupler there is a small notch .. this lines up with the master spline .. one spline is missing in both the coupler and the steering shaft in the box

I pulled the coupler off, see the notch on the bottom, but there is no area that has a wider tooth mark like on the shaft of the box.  What sucks is the fact that I will not have any more time to look at it until next week, about Wednesday.  Off to work.

It is amazing how things work, when you do it right.  Thanks.  That darn pin is harder than heck to get back in there though.
