:feedback: Can't say it any better!
 Lets see, I can't wait to make a coffee table out of the numbers matching 318. The 904 will be burying in storage and a 833 o/d will replace it. Every wire will be removed for a painless kit. Will fill/smooth all the holes in the engine bay. Build some subframe supports and some of the XV stuff out of some DOM and make my own 'reinforcements' for 1/10th of the cost. I'd love to do a aftermarket k-member/coilovers up front if I can swing it. Can't wait to get started! For now I'm just driving the thing until I have the facilities to do the everything including an attempt at some of the body work/patch panels. :working:

I didnt even notice wade.

Hemi cars and 6pk cars can be found easier than my car.  Has anyone else ever seen a rust free low mileage example of a car like mine before?    I can find another body somewhere to modify easy enough.  Eventually someone will want this piece of history. The more that stays on the car, the better off it is.   Right now, a simple long weekend will put the car back as it was when new, without replacing any metal you cut holes in, welded on, or jerked 40 yr old wiring out of.  As it is, it is a stroker screamer now.  Just can't go much deaper with it, unless I start modifying it.

It will be fun tinkering with it putting the 318 back in it.  The joy to me is finding oem nuts, bolts , and other items to work with.  it's all in the hunt.

If I could find a collector that is looking for a car like mine, I might consider a swap or selling it to do what I wanna do.

What is "a car like mine"?

My car isn't as you may say expensive, but more unique than many other choices out there. It being very tuff to find one warrants leaving it as it came so others may be able to see this type of build that was created in 1970.  It is possible that there may be only a half a dozen or so of this type of build left having everything or most everything it came with. The original 318 was gone when I bought the car, but a good member here sold me a period correct engine that actually came out of a 70 barracuda, I was pleased to be able to buy it.

I've been following this thread with great interest as I think I'm in the same boat as a couple of you with my 73 Barracuda in Mist Green, white top, sport stripes & interior, rallye hood, 318 & 904 & 8 3/4 rear, PS, PB, A/C in basically stock worn out condition.  This thing has everything on it that it came with except the stock exhaust which was replaced with Midas turbo mufflers.  All the smog equipment is there, etc.  Like everyone else I, I bought the car thinking about what I could make it, but the longer I have it the more I appreciate the time capsule this thing is.  The previous owner ran the numbers and it apparently is one of 200 or so in this color combination and I'll bet far fewer than that remain today especially in this original condition.  So I'm torn with what it could be vs. what it is and leaning heavily to doing only those things that can be easily reversed and even then making changes that are relatively invisible like swapping the 318 for a 340 but 'hiding' it under blue paint and a plain black stock aircleaner.  The hardest thing for me to leave 'stock' are the 73s bumper guards which I hate the look of but scream 'original'.    It's nice to know there are others with my sickness....

I am a stickler for originality.  That is why I am glad the cherry has already been popped on my car.   :burnout:

We all like to make mods. on these cars, and in most instances it makes sense because their originallity is gone for various reasons.  You have heard it before, "It is original only once." Sounds like Road_Runners car is just that, a survivor. And they do make allowences for some things such as tires and exhaust and still be considered survivor class. Al's car unfortunately can only be restored to original because of the engine situation, and I agree with him that what he is considering to be the right thing to do.

The ironoy of this hobby is that we many times buy these cars not realizing "what" they are and just naturally begin to build them the way we want them, and again we all have heard this too, "It's your car, your money, do what you want."  Our Chally was built an "ugly duckling" and was still that way when we bought her, 100% original, but wrecked and totaled by an insurance company. We turned her into a much better car, added a little more muscle and made her a whole lot more beautiful. However, we have set aside everything she came with, so a paint job basically is all she needs to be restored to original. But I hope no one will ever do that.

If you follow Ebay and used E bodies in general it would seem that surviving 318 cars are the rarest of them all second only to the 225.

I'll save the original engine for my car as long as I can so the next owner can have it.  If i can hang onto it that long.  Maybe I'll rebuild it as a project.

I can easily see why Alan would want to restore his car. It is quite rare. His car and Shauns A78 car deserve to be cradled. For me though, 95% or more of the 318 cars out there are make them what you wants.

I don't think a 318 will go back in mine, but I have tossed the idea around of taking it back to green. Alan is lucky to have an original Purple car!!

My car was an lod ladys car.  Green with hubcaps I am sure.  Then again that Charger on the other thread looks pretty cool.  You don't see them like that anymore.
