Alternator help!!!
« on: February 06, 2010 - 12:45:21 PM »
I took my alternator to have it tested( just to see what it was putting out) and 2 different Napa stores said that the results showed that it never "turned on".  Now this alt. does not have any more than approx. 2000 miles on itC and I had no idea that it was bad.  My car has not been driven much over the past 10 or more years because of engine needing to be rebuilt and lack of time and funds.  It has always been garaged and out of the weather.

What component(s) in the alt. would cause it to "not turn on"?

Do you think it's a cheap fix, or should I just buy a new one?

Thanks
Mike

the brushes could have a contact problem or the diodes could be open
