SOLD!70' Challenger Convertible: 500 stroker, 90% done, 100+pics
« on: November 08, 2009 - 12:20:06 AM »
Hi everyone, though I'm a new poster, thought I would doa friend a favor and post his car he has for sale. I'm not sure of the posting info I read, so please feel free to contact me or post some info.

I am selling my friends car for him in Rogersville, TN. There will be over 100+ pictures of the car that can be viewed at Will deliver depending on location. I tried posting the photos, but photobucket won't post here for some reason.

over 100+ pictures can be seen at http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p265/migsbig/flowers%20mopars/

1970 BARRACUDA IS NOT FOR SALE.

Car has clean Paperwork and was never wrecked and never been salvaged.

JD: Up for sale is a 1970 Dodge Challenger convertible. I bought this car October 18th 1991. The reason I know the date is because two days later, we had the Oakland Hills Firestorm fire that wiped out the whole neighborhood of where it was at. I went back 2 months later to talk to the previous owner and the whole erea was gone, just rubble and ashes! Pretty much, I saved this car from a firery doom.

BODY: This car Has been garged kept ever since I owned it. The only rust it ever had repaired was a replacment trunk pan. The entire car is still in very excellent condition. I started restoration on it 10 years ago and I ended up moving to Rogerville, TN and towed the car out here. The bodywork was very nice and had started preping for red paint. I had the engine compartment, door jams, trunk erea and selected parts paint in Rallye Red. Shaker hood was bought about 15 years ago, is an all metal reproduction. This car had a small dent on the driverside rear quarted to which I had recently put, and then contracted a bodyman to repair it and he did a wonderful job. Hardly used any skim filler, mostly dolly and hammered for hours to make this a real nice quarter panel. All sheetmetal, cowl, floors, rockers, quarters, framerails, wells and such have no rust. Also had new door hinges ordered and I installed on it. Like I said before, this was a well cared for CA car that saw very little action. This car originally was a 318 904 non-ac auto car. Still have vin and fender tag original to it. Bumpers were nice as were the original trim, lenses and such. Grill and headlight bezels are also in great condition. Has 3speed wiper. Convertible top was not rusted out and patched up like most you see. Top was completly disassembled, sandblasted and painted before reassembly. I do not have a top for it as I wasn't sure of what color I wanted it to be, so I didn't order it yet. I do have a new boot form Legendary Auto interiors. Glass is nice and in good working condition and the windshield is new and tinted. This car pretty much just needed a paint job to finish I couldn't find anybody to do the paint job I wanted (I'm kinda picky), so I just left it in primer since I just was going to wait til I found the right painter to do the job.

INTERIOR:  All new Legendary Interior including bucket seats, carpet, padding and such. Nice working power top. The original 3 speaker pad in the car is very nice and has 1 small crack in the pad going from center speaker to the windshield about only an inch long. Origianl console car, Rallye dash was installed and all gauges work fine. Added a tuff wheel, am radio stock, door panels are mind with SE carpet covers and no speaker holes. Also Has the SE door wood applet inserts (one is on the car, other is stored off the car). Vent cables are there and not broken, steering column is correct floor shift one for this car. Has painted remote mirror & non remote pass side also. Convertible chrome is very nice, not reproduction and shines brightly. R/T floor mats give it a nice touch.

SUSPENSION:  Here is where all the fun begines. Frontend suspension was rebuilt with power 11.5in front disc brakes, 11X2 drums in back with correct master cylinder and valve, swaybar, KYB shocks, power steering and big block torsion bars.Driveshaft was replaced with a nice replacment. Rearend was removed and replaced with a 3:55 Sure Grip and 489 case 1969 Charger 8 3/4, Rear springs have been relocated inward 2" for tire clearance and spring perches relocated and fitted into the car on heavy duty leaf springs. Custom modified rear swaybar was added to the car. Had made custom subframe connectors to fit the floorpans. Stockton wheels made me from my cores some 15x8 front rallye rims AND 15X10 rear wheels. These have been powder coated with nice caps and new trim rings. No rear wheel well space was modified to fit these wheels. I did all the work myself and have done this type of mod on e-bodies for over 20 years and never had a problem with it. BFG's are new and zero miles on them 305-15 in rear and 245-50 on the front. This package handles great on my other cudas and challengers and really looks nice when all done and running.

DRIVETRAIN:.........This is power by a Mopar Performance 500/505 inch stroker crate engine and has ZERO miles on it! Pretty much just bolted on a March Pulley and bracket set-up, fluid dampner, aluminum waterpump housing and pump, electronic ingighton, orange box and just had it in the car. I cranked the motor over to keep it oiled and good condition. Also has a new fuel tank. Carb is an Edelbrock 800 CFM. Car also comes with the shaker hood scoop air cleaner assembly and only needs the cold air doors. Has Factory HP exaust manifolds and will need an exaust system from the mufflers forward (center pipes). I have 2 1/2 inch tail pipes and new stainless steel exhaust tips still in the box from TTi, no H-pipe of mufflers. Transmission is a 727 automativc heavy duty that is fresh rebuilt and has a Mopar Performance torque converter in it.Does not have a radiator, was still trying to decide if I wanted an aluminum or stocker. All this car needs to finish it is a top, radiator, exhaust and outside paint and you will have a great and unique mopar for much less than building it yourself of haveing it done for you.

Pretty much all the stuff you want, only at a better price. Only things keeping it from being a driver are:
center exhaust
radiator
convertible top
paint

Since I only put phone numbers in the ad and no e-mail, your probably right about me not returning the message.

Yeah john, my buddy has it sold and the car is sceduled for final pick-up when the weather clears.

Didn't mean e-mail. If you look, you should find a personal message from hotrod98.
I saw the phone numbers but I don't like making first contact by phone. I restore Mopars full time now and I usually don't get in until late. I don't like calling people after 10:00. I buy a lot of cars and I pay cash, quick. The price was low and I was serious about buying it. I figure that if a guy isn't going to reply, then he's not really interested in selling or it's already been sold. In this case, I had assumed that the car had been sold.
Glad he got his price out of it. If it had been mine, I wouldn't have sold it anywhere near that cheap.

Not really a big deal. My wife and I have been spending our retirement fund on mopars lately as an investment and we like convertibles. The stock market just wasn't doing it for us. We did pick up a very nice 71 Sassy grass green Barracuda this week.
Thanks
