Oh oooooo  :-[ I may have left a vital piece of info out........

Drum roll please.....................................I have Air conditioning!?!?!?!?!  :-X :-\

That surely must mean it's an impossible swap without spending meag $$$. I don't want to remove the air con and I don't want to spend any more $$$ than I have to. Is this conversion still possible?  ???

They never came from the factory with 440's, 4-speeds and air conditiong, well not that I'm aware of in a 1970 e-body.

Please advise if this conversion is possible still?

I don't mind either a 4-speed or TF-727 so I'm not worried just thought a Kiesler or A-833 would be fun.  ;D

Keuwl!!!!!  :D ;D

I think I am going to go for the A-833 HEMI trans. You think thats a good idea.  ??? :)

Do you think the only reason A/C never came with a 4-speed on 440's and 440+6's is because they were meant for one thing - speed?

I had a look in the archieve and found that you posted a 4-speed swap section.  ;)

Thanks CP

So far I am 80% keen on this conversion, may have to save the pennys a little longer though but never the less.

Hey Matt, NZ, Chryco and all!

Its been going good. I was spending a lot of time on the inner fenders of the Challenger becasue of RUST.. yuck. I have it painted up and the motor is in and almost ready to fire. So far I am stil running the 727 with a TCI stall hemi converter! Here's a picture of how it looks today. I bought the Hemi dual quad base from year one but didn't realize the neck of the hemi carter carbs is a smaller diameter so I need to modify the base.

NZ I know the 440 cars came with AC except for maybe the 6 pack but like Chryco said it shouldn't be affected by the tranny. :)

there is not enough room for both the 6 pack & the V2 compressor , I know of no reason to prevent a 440 4spd A/C combo being built
The Hemi looks great in there 67

Good point CP.

I wonder if that set-up opn Ebay with the 23-spline woul hosue the 18 in future?  ???

If later down the road (saved pennys) could a excahnge transmsions? Like, would the 18 spline trans go right in, or at the very least need minor adjustments or parts.  :D

Because I could buy that eBay set-up and then get the HEMI trans later down the road.  8)

the 18 spline tranny is identical , all you need to do is change the clutch disc to match the 18 spine shaft to swap trannys

After some serious thought I have decided not to do this conversion.

Why?  ???

Several reasons, and discussions.

Main one being that it's an original #'s vehicle. Second I don't mind either or so keeping the TF-727 is fine.
The Torqueflite-727 is a great transmission and is piece of mind having that behind the 440.

Plus it's so close to being complete. I think this is just another resto phase of mine.

First it was keeping all the moldings and vinly roof, then ages ago it was thinking about getting a drag racing auto shifter (B&M Rachet) I have the slap-stik tilt pistol-Grip for some fun.  8) ;D

I guess I can spend a 1/4 of the conversion money and some extra hp.  ;D

If my car was a rolling chasis or a clone the change would be simple and with no harm to value.

Thanks for all your help lads, mainly Chryco.

Yehaaaaaaaaaaw not long to go now............

NZ - good choice, if you have a #matching car.. i wouldnt change anything.  I am doing the 5 speed conversion this winter, (tranny is on its way as we speak)  But i wouldnt do it if I had the original engine and all that.  Of course you could always go back.

Thanks.  :) Yeah, I "could" always change it later on down the track but I doubt I will. I'll probably spice it it some but thats it.  8)
