Oil on driver side rear brakes only
« on: January 27, 2010 - 10:13:06 AM »
Doing some winter pm on my Cuda, pulled the rear wheels and have some diff oil on the driver side brakes. I'm planning to change the seal in the axle tube but have seen some where that the end play also affect if the seal leaks or not. How's that work and whats the cure if it?

Which rear axle do you have?
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

if the end play is excessive the bearing will not sit in the center of the bearing cup & will load the brgs higher int he housing leaving a gap at the bottom of the sesal for the oil to leak out , the end play should be in the .008 range . I doubt your leak is caused by excessive play or both sides would leak

Could also be a clogged vent on the housing.
