71 E Body Fuel Gauge sensor replacement: Any advice appreciated
« on: February 14, 2010 - 08:27:49 PM »
Replacing my fuel gauge sensor:   Im changing out my fuel gauge sensor.  I took a look today, and its a pretty tight fit to remove the existing gauge:   Do I need to lower the gas tank?  If so, what steps shuld I follow?

Any tips are appreciated, thanks

pull the rear valance and drop the tank  1/2 way down and it should roll out.

Are you talking about the sending unit?  Just jack up the rear end, pull the left rear tire, and you should have plenty of access to it.

it should slide out over the top of the exhuast , if you have the heat sheild there you have to remove it first , I did one last week , removed the heat sheild & it came out easily over the exhaust no issues

I am changing out the sender unit.  Thanks guys      On my 71 Cuda, it looks like a tight fit, but sounds like others have done it without lowering the tank
