A 727 pan is the same no matter what is in front of it (big block or small block)or what body style (E,B or A body) and the dealer is probably gonna sell you the "formed" rubber gasket for the 46/47/48RE OD trans since it will fit. You just need pan bolts 2-3 threads longer. If you are careful on the tightening of the original pan bolts, you will be fine. The formed rubber gasket is thicker so the threads don't engage as much.

Thanks, also from the looks of the pan it looks to be a deep pan, any worries on that, do I need to get a pic of it and post it or are they all the same?

This has been a great thread. I love this forum and it's the people that make it great. I have learned a ton from CC.com but have a lot to learn as we are always gaining something about Mopars from each other as we restore our cars. Having said that, I try to help as much as my level of knowledge goes. But as this thread progressed I became totally confused on one aspect. That is about the shifter lever that attaches directly to the driver's side of the transmission. It seems to be the general consensus that the straight lever is the correct one for the console shifter. My car which has a console shifter came with the angled one that is approximately "L" shaped. I have a Dodge factory service manual for my car and have scanned below the illustrations of the shifter linkages. The only place I can find the straight shifter lever illustrated is for the column shifter. In the picture for the console shifter it clearly shows the "L" shaped shifter bracket. Is this correct? If the straight lever is correct (for the console shifter) as stated in this thread why is the "L" shaped lever shown in the illustration? They may both work fine, I was just confused as to what was factory correct for the console shifter? :dunno: :clueless:

I think the biggest problem he has with his lever is the sloppiness of the hole. I have a '73 Chally here in the shop that has the slap stick and has the straight lever. I think my '73 originally had the "L" shaped but it has been many years since I have seen it.(the car is all a part now)

Thanks Terry,
I have some of the same problems, & have corrected most of them. I've just get to realign my shifter and get to work smoothly and not bind & I think I'll be good to go. I hope Nick gets his squared away. Looks like most of his issues have been identified!! It's like a science project!! Fun indeed!!

Matt - After getting under it again I can see that my lever is an L shape but the L shape is not like the service manual shows in there picture. The picture shows an L but it is a long l conected to the small - which equal an L shape, mine is a short i and a short - which is a mini L and not a long L, I hope that makes sense....

Terry,
If mine has the straight lever, can you verify if it is working correctly, and if not, do I need to find a replacement?

I will take care of it for you, when you pick it back up ,you will have a good park and manual low. Sometimes you have to cut the lever and take a section out and then weld it back together to make the ratio faster on the transmission. If you have a car that when you adjust it,it has EITHER park or manual low but never both, shortening the lever usually fixes it.
