Stamped fender louvers
« on: February 19, 2010 - 09:29:44 PM »
I know that J&J on the east coast will stamp fender louvers.  Since J&J is on the east coast I was wondering if there is a company closer to Colorado that stamps fender louvers.

I've seen several cars lately where they have simply cut the slots and installed the gills. I may do that to one of my 71 Barracudas. I might make a slotted stiffener to bond in behind it for reinforcement but the ones that I've seen have held up nice. The best part is the fender isn't distorted in the process. It's barely noticeable that the gills aren't recessed.

Another alternative:

This guy is a jedi master of metal work.
I really appreciate this skill level. You can't even tell anything is welded.

What I know of his technique is that he hammers the welds while they are still red hot. It sounds like an art the way it comes out with minimal after work.

There is a guy in Iowa who has the tooling to stamp the louvers.  His name is James Franken and I think he lives around Hampton.  James did a pair of fenders for me and does excellent work.  James has done several fenders for some of Greg Nelson's cars (MoparPonderosa).  I don't have James's number but he is friends with Jeff Bobst in Waverly, IA and Jeff can help you get a hold of him.  Jeff's number is (319) 352-2511.

Do you have any pictures?  Sounds relatively easy.  If you can't really tell, maybe I will try.

This guy is a Jedi Master.  Very impressive.

I will give Jeff a call.  Iowa is much closer than Pennsylvania.  Hopefully he can get me in touch with James.  Thanks alot!!   :2thumbs:
