Brake line question
« on: February 23, 2010 - 09:53:31 AM »
My buddy is just about finished his winter re-do of his 500" big block Dart. He asked me if the brake lines need the "coil" in the brake lines after they exit the master cylinder. I said yes, it has something to do with allow a little flex in the lines due to the constant presure, no-pressure cycles of braking. He said he doesn't see the point and wants to run straight lines out of the master cylinder to the proportioning valve. Will he be ok doing that?   :dunno:

There is a reason why the manufacturers do this. Why would THEY spend the extra $ if not necessary... Preventing fatigue of the lines is the short answer.   :2cents:

Ok , here's from my GTS. The master was already loose but the lines are still there. Altho not perfect I'm sure you can get the idea from here.  :working:  :2thumbs:

All previous comments are correct of course.   Have your friend push hard on the brake pedal and you will see movement in the brake master cylinder relative to the fenderwell of the car where the proportioning valve is located.  As said, thats why the coils are needed.
