Rod Squirt Hole ?
« on: March 05, 2010 - 08:13:43 PM »
Sorry about all the questions lately, my new rod bearings don't have a hole for the oil squirt, my machine shop says forget it they're all that way. any opinions?

I'd have to go look again, I remember they're made in Australia it's all this crank grinder uses.

Don't those holes spray oil on the backside of the piston skirts and dome?   The oil would help pull heat off the pistons.   I would get shells with oil hole in them.   JMO.
I could check here and see whats being offered by Cleavite, but lots of forum members can do that or should know off the top.

Yes that was the intention for the hole, I ran into this a few years ago on an AMC 390 and was told the same thing.

I find lots of listing for different brand bearings but none of them say anything about if they havbe the hole or not. I suppose a guy could put a little notch in them himself if it was worth the effort. I'm guessing everyone has decided that old bit of technology is a joke or something.

Holes are usually for lubing the thrust side of the bore for the piston, maybe they think that there is too much oil being splashed around.

Yeah, they are not produced with the hole because they realized it contributes to oil contamination in the chamber. New rods dont have it either.
