New Hotchkis tie rod ends.
« on: March 07, 2010 - 10:38:01 AM »
Any of you guys have the uneasy feeling I have about using Heim joints for tie rod ends on a street car?
I am thinking that dirt will wear these to bits in no time.
Do you lube them?
I bought them because they were on sale and I wanted to see there work and cure for bump steer, but I am not to sure about this set up on the street.
They give a longer bolt and two .300 spacers to lower the mounting point of the outer rod end.
Any one like to put me at ease on these?
Jackson from Toronto.

I used aircraft quality teflon lined rod ends and seals from this company on another project I did once.

Teflon lined will eliminate the anoying rattle. There are many "grades" of rod ends (heim joints)  different strenghts, stainless etc...I'd use the best I could afford.
I wouldn't use the aluminum rod ends on the street, I know the good quality ones are strong, but that's just me....?
there are many manufacturers of qualitl rod ends, I've used this brand before.
