Both the units from O'Reillys have the spring. I don't know if there's silicone in there, I guess there's some liquid in there......
After stripping the threads on the HD version, I installed it with just 3 bolts so I could go to a local car show. I figured I wouldn't hurt anything in a 35 miles round trip. I got much lower temps with the HD. The next day I bought and installed the $30 standard clutch and saw temps up to 225 in traffic on a that day. That was the same as I was getting with my old one.
I fixed the threads on the HD, got it reinstalled and have not seen more than 205 since........... I had no idea the clutch fan was so instrumental in cooling the motor. Heck, I never knew what that thing was until 2 weeks ago. I'm an old motorcycle guy, so much of this is new to me. I've learned so much and still know so little.

Thanks, I may have to pick up a HD one then, I hit 205-210 sometimes in traffic, I think they have different kick in points(temps) for the different styles.
