Need a measurement from a Challenger hood
« on: February 28, 2010 - 12:10:03 AM »
Can someone measure the clearence between the wiper arm and the underside of the hood for me?. i have a one piece fiberglass tilt fenders/hood, and to get it to line up with the door leaves little room for the wipers. the doors are pulled up as high as i can go.  im here in Florida, and while we have no vehicle inspection, driving around with no wipers isn't the smartest thing to do.

are you using the steel backed original wiper arms/ blades  , none of the newer after market arms will clear a stock hood

OK!!  Thanks for that info. removes one mystery!!  -   I had an idea the new style wipers were not going to fit, they are about 1/2 an inch taller, and move the arm up away from the windshield quite a bit.  putting on the old style now, and messing around with the hood fit.  im still wondering what the distance should be, like from the body to the hood - maybe my aftermarket fiberglass hood isn't right as well.

Looks to be about 1/2 inch.

Thanks for helping out guys!!  it's all starting to get much clearer for me. i have an aftermarket fiberglass hood. i have a bit less than 3/4" between hood and the stainless trim piece in some areas. i made a template of part of the hood which looks higher and when i put the template on the low sections i can see the problem - its the hood. i will have to heat it and bend it and then reinforce it and that should work - keeping the 1-1/4" figure and the 1/2" wiper clearence in mind.
Thanks again

i used a heat gun to heat the hood and some wood spacers to get the position i wanted, then a wet rag to cool the hood. you can see the difference on the drivers side, passenger side not done yet.
