Metal Cleaners
« on: March 13, 2010 - 11:07:59 PM »
I'm not a chemist by any means. But one thing I noticed is that all the different brands of metal prep cleaners are basically phosphorus leaving a film of white powder.

Some of them say to wash off with water after so much time gone by. Well I did that before and it left a light rust haze. Not satisfied, I re did it but this time I let it sit overnight and dry on. I noticed rust spots turned black and some even disappeared when I applied it more than once.

The next day, I took a 3M scotchbrite pad and gave it a quick light sanding yet leaving a light film on. I think this was the best way. The metal was dry and very clean with no build up.

Nothing against Eastwoods brand or Picklex but I'm starting to think what their product really isn't much different or better than what you can buy at a hardware store. This is the brand I bought.

If you compared and tried other metal cleaners what did you like and why?
