which overhauling kit will fit?

Hi, I have a 1968 727 (for 383-4) and want to rebuild it. I'm making a n order at summit but something is not clear in TCI descriptions.

Munroe's book states 19 spline input shaft was 1962-66 and 24 spline 1967-up.

My tranny has 24 spline input shaft.

However when I look at the kits:

thay state 19 spline is 1962-1970 and 24 71 - up. What kit should I buy? AFAIK there is some differences in internal parts before and after 1970.

I dont know if I got it.

I have the 3 prong switch but the old (68) detent lever activates REVERSE light on both R and D-2-1 shifter positions. I thought that I had to change the lever - so that it gounds the switch in P and N to activate starter relay and push the ball in with plastic part in all but R positions. Am I right?

So how that the switch in the link work with 69 detent lever - I will be only activate in R and N positons - when detent lever "fingers" touch the NSS. They lever wont touch the NSS in any other position now - and that why the reverse is it on R and D-2-1.

I have used the late three prong switch on that style lever and it has worked. When the points touch the center metal piece in the switch,it grounds the relay for the starter. When the switch is in the center "dipped" area,it pops the switch plunger out all the way and activates the rev lights. You should be able to have the rev lights on with the switch unscrewed out of the transmission and the connector plugged onto it and the key in the "on" position.. If they do not come on,then with it all plugged in and the key on,push in and out on the switch plunger and see if they blink on and off.

All you wrote is true but it works the same in R and D21 position.
In other words - nothing else in the car "tells" the reverse light to turn on than that lever. When in R - the dipped part lets the switch activate connection - and the same occurs when the lever is in D21 (no contact of lever with switch).
The later type lever with plastic sleeve is longer - the plastic sleeve pushes the ball (plunger) of NSS inside when in D21 thus the reverse light is on only in the R position - when the ball (plunger) is out - in D21 the plastic arm pushes it in.

BTW my switch was working OK whan the car was driveable but rev light went on on both R and D21 shifter positions.

You have to change the WHOLE VB then. The "rooster comb" is a different shape for the late style switches.
